On May 19th, Huaqiao’s second sports meeting kicked off at the Huaqiao vocational school commencing with a spectacular opening ceremony.

The field of the Huaqiao vocational school was decked with flying flags and a large crowd. The preparation of this year's sports meeting has lasted for three months, and in total 32 delegations and over 1,700 “athletes” participated in the games.

The sports meeting of Huaqiao Economic Development Zone has been held every four years, which has become a significant platform for the locals to participate jointly, swop skills and communicate emotions.

With the theme of "one dynamic Huaqiao, one better future", the sports meeting has adhered to the principles of "Grandeur, Thrifty, Safety and Satisfaction". On the tenet of "solidarity, striving, civility and progress", the sports meeting has fully displayed the athletic style and good spirit of the locals.

This year's sports meeting has set up 12 categories of sports activities and 28 major events, which includes traditional track and field events such as 100-meter sprint, shot put and long jump, popular sports events like basketball, croquet, poker, Chinese chess, snooker and fun sports events including tug-of-war, dragon-boat racing and slow-bicycle race.

At the opening ceremony, Reng Xueyuan, the deputy director of the standing committee of Huaqiao municipal People's Congress, delivered a pep talk to the participants and congratulated the kick-off of the sports meeting. Shen Huafei, the deputy secretary of the Party Working Committee of Huaqiao Economic Development Zone, declared the opening of this meeting. Zhang Jianwen, the deputy director of Huaqiao Management Committee, Min Hongwei, the director of Huaqiao Municipal Sports Bureau and Tang Naixin, the associate consultant of Huaqiao Economic Development Zone attended the opening ceremony.
