Cui Li, a vice-minister with the National Health and Family Planning Commission, made a visit to Guizhou province, March 29-30, to get a better understanding of their healthcare reforms especially at hospitals and health and family planning centers, in the cities of Zunyi and Bijie, where she listened to a provincial report and spoke with government officials, health and family planning workers, hospital personnel and patients.
Cui was accompanied by NHFPC officials and got a lot of opinions and suggestions, while saying that Guizhou has given a lot of attention to healthcare and public hospital reforms, especially at the county level and she could see the improvements in medical insurance system and overall planning. She also said that the reforms still face challenges and need to be more systematic and coordinated and that she hopes that the province can follow the Central Government's ideas for new breakthroughs in public hospital reform.
She pointed out that Guizhou needs to get away from tying hospital revenues and staff income to the number of drug prescriptions and deal with medical costs, and build a more reasonable salary system. She also asked them to improve the medical insurance and care system, be more innovative in their training, and to try to retain talented personnel in the community, make people more aware of health care, and create an environment that is conducive to medical reforms and improves medical treatment and health.
