Invited by its counterpart in Taiwan's Miaoli county, a cycling association in Pingtan, Fujian province, will organize cyclists to participate in a five-day event to cycle around the Taiwan Island on Nov 14.

The event will begin in Taitung county and end in Hualien county, a distance of 300 kilometers. This route, recommended by Taiwan cyclists, will pass by many tourist sites such as the Fugang Fishery Harbor and the Sanxiantai, an area containing a beach and several islands. Participants will also be able to enjoy the beautiful scenery along the seashore. So far, 17 cycling fans have applied to participate in the event.

Gao Yu, secretary-general of the association, said the event aims to promote cross-Straits exchanges and cooperation on sports culture.

Gao added that they will soon join with Taiwan to launch a symposium on sports development, with the idea of facilitating cooperation on cycling and tourism between the two areas.
