The eighth Cross-Straits Cultural Industries Fair kicked off in the port city of Xiamen in southeast China's Fujian Province, on Oct 30, Xiamen Daily reported.

A third of the exhibitors were from Taiwan, a record high. Taiwan Crafts Center and Taiwan Design Center, two cultural giants in Taiwan, were among the big attractions at the four-day fair.

Another highlight was a children's culture exhibition, where picture books and toys were displayed. A Taiwan's children's art troupe – Little Frog Theatre – will stage puppet shows during the fair.

More than 50 universities from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan, including Xiamen University, Fuzhou University, and National Taiwan University of Arts, were also attending. In addition to providing a platform for students' designs, the fair served as a bridge between companies and universities.

The fair has become an important platform for cultural communication between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan since its launch in 2008.

Entrance is free with ID cards or other valid certificates.
