Zhangzhou Binhai Volcano National Geologic Park is located in Zhangpu county of Zhangzhou city and runs along the coast of Longhai city, Fujian province. It is 80 kilometers away from downtown Zhangzhou and 50 kilometers from Zhangpu county. With an area of 100 sq m, the park is known as a typical tertiary volcanic geologic park.

The volcanic rock (basalt) in the park was formed through magmatic exhalation in the Himalayan movement 17 million years ago. It has a distinct volcanic structure and is a window into the thrilling volcanic activity in the west Pacific during the Cenozoic Era. Its landform was created by the central vent eruption and weathering and erosion. The ancient crater of Niutou Mountain has been well-preserved. The volcanic vent groups on Linjin Island are extremely rare. The basalt columnar jointing on Nanding Island is majestic and spectacular. As many as 1.4 million giant stone columns stand against the 20-50 meter high precipice of Nanding Island, creating an amazing view.

The uncanny workmanship of nature has created a large number of unique volcanic landforms. The region is a natural geologic museum that is valuable for scientific research and sightseeing. In March 2001, the park was approved by the Ministry of Land and Resources as one of the first groups of national geologic parks.

The scenic spot has become a comprehensive tourism area. It has blue skies, a grand sea, clean beaches, green forests, and fantastic volcanic views perfect for tourism, leisure, research and scientific popularization.
