Abstract: The spatial development of industrial parks in Hohhot city is held in check by some weak points such as simplex function, inefficient land use and restrictions on environmental protection. The research findings on the development of industrial parks in the city indicate that development conditions in various industrial parks have become diversified, among which the advantages of parks in Shaerqin Industrial New District and Hongsheng Industrial Zone have gradually been brought into play whereas the development of some other parks such as Wuchuan Economic Development Zone is still severely restricted. Therefore, the city government needs to propel the development of industrial parks in the city across the board and promote the optimization of spatial layout of the parks. Meanwhile, it needs to establish relevant strategic development patterns in light of the performance of the industrial parks in different corners of the city. Measures to be adopted could include extending the scope of industrial production in some parks, trimming industrial projects in some other parks and adjusting the spatial layout of relevant industrial parks. In addition, it also needs to make an overall spatial structure layout for industrial parks in four major districts of the city. The paper boils down to five key tasks for optimizing the spatial layout of industrial parks in Hohhot city.
