New website offers trademark services
IP service website falvhou.com was launched in Guangzhou last week and is believed to be the first of its kind in South China. One of the first services offered by the website is trademark registrations, with no extra agency fees for trademark registrants. The website uses cloud storage technology that allows users to upload files including the records of trademark use. Users can also check their service updates on mobile devices.

Entrepreneur bags fourth US invention patent
Luo Jin, an entrepreneur in Shenzhen, received his fourth patent certificate from the United States Patent and Trademark Office on Saturday. The patent is about using at least one detachable solar panel to generate electricity for laptops and protect display screens from sunshine. The invention was originally aimed at photographers who often work outdoors, said Luo. Two of his USPTO-patented inventions have been industrialized.

Hundreds of products shown at province's first GI fair
The first Jiangsu geographical indications and high-quality farm produce fair was held on Oct 29 in Huai'an. More than 200 products with geographical indication status from Jiangsu and some other provinces were shown at the fair. Jiangsu owns 224 geographical indications, including 99 in Huai'an. The city's Party chief Yao Xiaodong said at the opening ceremony that Huai'an is developing a type of modern agriculture that combines farming and gardening with the leisure business.

Police division set up to handle IP crimal cases
An intellectual property crime investigation detachment was established under the Yinchuan police force. The team will cooperate with other administrations in the city, including commerce, quality supervision, customs and press, to tackle severe IP infringements. The detachment was established partially because although Yinchuan has become the permanent venue of the international online gaming contest, World Cyber Arena, game copyright violations still happen frequently in the city.

University hosts forum as part of 75th anniversary
Officials and scholars called for IP professionals with comprehensive capabilities in law, technology, management and languages in the e-commerce sector at a forum held by Chongqing University of Technology and the city's IP administration. Industry insiders gave lectures and presented case studies on how to control IP riska and deal with commonly encountered legal issues. The forum is one of the academic activities to celebrate the university's 75th anniversary.

Authority's plans lay out ambitious five-year targets
The Jiangxi IP authority issued plans that lay out the province's IP strategy between 2015 and 2020. According to the plans, the number of patent applications will increase at an average annual rate of 25 percent. Companies in the province will contribute more than 30 percent of total invention patent filings by 2020, when they will have at least 100,000 trademarks. The total value of IP pledges will reach 1 billion yuan ($157.8 million), according to the plans.

Art, medicine, metalwork from Tibet showcased
An exhibition for intangible cultural heritage items in Tibet was held on Oct 30 to celebrate the autonomous region's 50th anniversary. More than 120 exhibits were selected from a number of Tibetan museums, 28 of which were national top-level relics. They covered many Tibetan traditional art forms, such as Thang-ga painting, masks, Tibetan calligraphy, Tibetan medicine, embroidery, leatherwear and metalwork. Art troupes from Tibet also gave performances in many locations in the city.
