China-Italy IP seminar
The fourth China-Italy intellectual property protection lecture began on Oct 15 at Tongji University and is scheduled to run for two weeks.
Italian college students and professors discussed China's IP laws and practices with Chinese experts, including the national IP strategy and protection related to international trade, company mergers and the development of Shanghai's small and medium-sized companies.

China-Japan talks delayed
The Chinese government will delay annual China-Japan intellectual property talks in the wake of the diplomatic dispute over the Diaoyu Islands.
The fourth Sino-Japanese Intellectual Property Working Group was planned for later this month in Hangzhou to talk about solutions to online IP infringement and cooperation on piracy prevention.

Family of alleged pirates
A family of seven and a housekeeper were recently charged in Nanjing with copying and selling pirated movies.
According to the court case, Liu Gui led the group and provided capital and equipment. His wife kept the books, while his brother copied DVDs and shipped them by mail. Cousin Cheng Min sought out materials and buyers, then sold the disks online, the court heard.
Two of Cheng's sisters-in-law and Liu's housekeeper packaged the discs and another relative was hired as a manager, according to court documents.

Prison fake for repellant
The boss of an operation in the city of Liuzhou was recently sentenced to three years in prison and fined 110,000 yuan ($15,600) for making fake-branded mosquito repellant incense and exporting it to Myanmar.
His three partners in Fujian province were sentenced to probation and levied a fine.
The four men started the business in 2010 and hired workers
to help make 10,600 cartons of fake Jintong mosquito incense, according to court testimony.
Police shut down the operation in 2011, by which time it had generated 660,000 yuan in illegal income .

Hui'an sculpture expo
An international sculpture expo scheduled for Nov 9 to 11 in Hui'an will have 700 exhibition booths, 10 percent for overseas exhibitors and 62 percent for local artists.
Known as a home of stone sculpture, Hui'an has a vibrant carving industry with about 100,000 people working in nearly 850 firms.
The companies made products worth some 14 billion yuan last year, 13.4 percent of the county's GDP, while the value of their exports surpassed 7 billion yuan.
Hui'an stone carving was granted geographic indication status in 2011. It has been listed among national cultural heritage since 2006.

12 inventions by prisoner
A prisoner in Qiongshan has filed 12 patent applications over the past four years with the State Intellectual Property Office, seven of which have been authorized.
His inventions include instruments to help quit smoking and fight addiction to online gaming, and an electrical wave massage device that has a built-in music player.
