The KingSoft Company is transitioning from a traditional software developer to a mobile Internet service provider. KingSoft Cloud Company, a subsidiary of KingSoft, recently announced cooperation with Founder Technology.

Peking University’s Yixin Medical Company of Founder Technology and KingSoft Cloud Company agreed to develop a smart medical cloud platform.

Lei Jun, president of KingSoft Group, said that he will personally invest $1 billion in the industry in the coming three to five years. KingSoft Cloud has begun its market expansion.

Wang Yulin, president of KingSoft Cloud Company, said that Lei’s $1 billion investment is already being implemented. The company is a leader in the game and smart household industries. The three-year-old company is expanding from online gaming to medication.

As a subsidiary dedicated to cloud computing and data storage, KingSoft Cloud Company has long been dedicated to online gaming. The KingSoft Group has five subsidiariess covering office software, cloud platforms, Internet security, online dictionaries, and interactive entertainment. As CEO of Xiaomi Technology, Lei invested $1.82 million in KingSoft Cloud Company and held 9.87 percent of the stock share in November of 2011.

The KingSoft Software Company has completed its transition to an Internet service provider in recent years. The three subsidiary corporations – KingSoft Internet, KingSoft Game, and KingSoft Office started to expand their business areas.

Zhang Hongjiang, CEO of KingSoft Software Company, said that the three subsidiaries may be individually listed in stock markets. But Zhang did not give a detailed timetable of the corporations’’ listing. The corporations have individually developed abilities and individual IPO capacity. IPO is the core of KingSoft Cloud’s entrepreneurship mechanism.

Wang said, “Cloud computing is a huge and rapidly growing industry. The company is dedicated but does not plan to list in the stock market. Cloud computing is a business emphasizing capital. The corporation’s business expansion has direct relations with its performance. The company is expanding investment to realize healthy development.”

Wang believes that the cloud computing industry will be a market worth a hundred billion yuan ($16 billion) in the coming three years. The growth rate will double several times each year in the near future.

Competition in cloud computing is getting tough. The cloud computing industry has high requirements on technology and capital and needs support from a strong business ecosystem.

Smart medication is a hot issue in the industry. KingSoft Company stepped into the industry by establishing the new platform.

The existing system of hospitals has expanded, with capacity and costs becoming major problems.

The medical system needs coordination of many resources including storage, servers, the Internet, network, UPS, air conditioning, machine rooms, and staff members. The integration of these resources requires great capital support which large hospitals cannot afford. .

In order to solve the problems, the two companies will promote a “mixed cloud” solution based on a “public cloud platform” and “privately owned cloud systems”. Hospitals will be able to submit more information on the cloud system, and will be provided with rapid application services to coordinate and expand under the cloud computing environment. The new solution includes three major parts – a light private cloud, specially-owned cloud, and public cloud. The light private cloud will collect information and standardize hospital data to cut their investments in software and hardware. The specially-owned cloud will provide personalized software and hardware environments. The public cloud will ensure expanded medical information services to medical institutions.

Smart medical services will be a core business in the future, according to Wang. The cooperation with Peking University Yixin Medical Company directly applies to the high requirements of the medical industry. It is difficult for start-ups to integrate medical cloud platforms, while companies like KingSoft can support the entire medical cloud computing platform.

Apart from the medical industry, KingSoft Cloud Company will also develop in the mobile Internet and smart household industries.
