Key economic indicators of high-tech enterprises above a designated size in Zhongguancun Science Park (January – July, 2014)

According to the statistical data of enterprises above a designated size from January to July 2014, the total income of Zhongguancun Science Park reached 1.7 trillion yuan ($278 billion) with a year-on-year growth of 16.4 percent; the gross industrial output value reached 428.4 billion yuan, accounting for more than 40 percent of the city’s total; the current employed population reached 1.693 million with a year-on-year growth of 3.6 percent; the actual paid-in taxes reached 103.68 billion yuan with a year-on-year growth of 41.3 percent; the total export volume was $17.63 billion with a year-on-year growth of 21.7 percent, occupying nearly half of the city’s total; internal expenses on science and technology activities came to 54.07 billion yuan with a year-on-year increase of 11 percent; and the employees of science and technology activities numbered 436,000 with a year-on-year growth of 5.2 percent, occupying over one quarter of the total employees in the Park.

On average, the enterprises in Zhongguancun applied for more than 100 patents per day. From January to July, they applied for 21,813 patents in total, seeing a year-on-year growth of 16.6 percent and accounting for 30.5 percent of the gross patent applications of the whole city during the corresponding period.

Nearly 60 percent of them are patents of invention, bringing the total number to 12,605 and accounting for 31.8 percent of the city’s total. Among these, 4,366 are patents of invention, which accounts for one third of the park’s total with a year-on-year growth of 6.2 percent.
