讀者來稿:The Copenhagen Climate Conference in my view

Since I was a little girl, the living environment of the earth is the most popular topic discussed by politicians all over the world. So I was particularly interested in the Copenhagen Climate Summit in Denmark from December 7th to 18th last year.

Unfortunately, while the climate is getting worse day by day, politicians around the world are still arguing about the benefits of countries and individual groups. The Copenhagen Climate Summit only reached the so-called non-legally binding ambiguity. Many newspapers commented that this conference was only one step away from total failure.

During the 12 day conference, what I mainly saw on TV was the endless bickering of politicians, or some disembodied speeches. Once in politics course, I learned that politics is the superstructure of the main areas of the various powers to safeguard their own interests to form a specific behavior and the resulting specific relationship. It has a significant influence and plays an important role in all aspects of political and social life.

Confused, entangled, I wondered isn’t the earth's living environment our common goal? Is it not related to mankind's benefits? Which country can be an exception? Looking back to the 20th century, many countries have signed the Kyoto Protocol, but how many can really meet its standards? What’s more ridiculous is that the world's largest country of carbon emissions actually did not sign the agreement.

During the summit, according to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Kyoto Protocol, developing countries hope to assume "equal but differentiated responsibilities". While developed countries want to set aside the two documents, and rank the countries according to carbon emissions. If the politicians in various countries can not find a reasonable solution in a limited time, Maldives, Tovar , East Timor, Fiji and low-lying Netherlands, even Venice are all going to disappear in less than 50 years due to global warming, rising sea levels. As we can see, environmental disaster can be anywhere in the world, regardless of the developing or developed status.

If I can have a chance to talk to the conference, I would tell the world that protecting the ecological environment is our common goal and our common interests. So, stop quelling, politicians. I would like to use a sentence from one of China's four classical novels Dream of Red Mansions: One failure leads to another; so does success. In global environment issues, a country is affected by the damage, other countries will be infected by the damage as well; a country gets benefit, other countries will get benefits as well. If this argument continues, the answer will be simple, mankind will lose the earth, no one would be spared.

Therefore, we can only help one another, join hands and work together to face the Earth's environmental problems. There is not much time left, no matter how the politicians argue, we must work together, live low-carbon lives, it might just be a small move, but the sum of these small moves will help change the Earth's environment.
