The use of Christmas lights goes back to 18th-century Germany where they decorated Christmas trees in wealthy homes. Christmas trees displayed publicly and illuminated with electric lights became popular at the beginning of the 20th century. In Britain, string of lights displayed on Christmas trees, walls and doors are called "fairy lights".



使用圣誕燈飾可以追溯到18世紀的德國，那時候有錢人的家里會裝飾圣誕樹。公開展示，以及用電燈來裝飾圣誕樹的習俗則是在20世紀初才開始流行的。在英國，圣誕樹上，墻壁上和門上懸掛的長串燈飾被稱為“童話燈”。
