The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), Airbus and two Chinese aviation universities have agreed to continue to work together for a higher level performance engineer training course in China, following the implementation of the Ab Initio Performance Engineer training course, which was launched in 2008.

Airbus provides methodologies, training material and financial support to the intermediate level performance engineer training project while the CAUC and CAFUC jointly develop the courseware and implement the training, according to a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the four parties on Jan 24. The courseware should be certified by CAAC.

The course will help produce more qualified performance engineers in China, which are highly in demand as China’s air traffic industry enjoys rapid growth.

Based on the essential knowledge gained from the first stage of training, the intermediate level training course will enable the trainees to get a higher level understanding of aircraft performance and more advanced knowledge related to aircraft performance.

The content of the intermediate course includes EOSID (engine out standard instrument departure) design, route study and PBN (Performance based navigation).

"The Ab Initio Performance Engineer training course has been a success. The course was welcomed by the trainees and mutual trust has been built among Airbus, CAAC and the universities during the cooperation, which laid a solid foundation for the intermediate level training program and for a more advanced course in the future," said Jin Yibin, Director General of the CAAC Flight Standard Department.

"As China's civil aviation industry enjoys a rapid development, we need more qualified aircraft performance engineers, who will play a key role in ensuring flight safety and improve flight efficiency," he added.
