A one-piece swimsuit is an indispensable part of every spring/summer wardrobe, according to Jaye Leigo, creative director for Australian brand Insight's womenswear.

"Functioning as more than just a swimsuit, you can pair it with a pair of skinny jeans and pumps or heels for a funky look away from the beach," she said.

This summer, the brand has launched the Cosmic Lights swimwear collection (available at The Source). It features eye-catching one-pieces in vibrant animal and psychedelic prints.

"The collection resonates with the deepest levels of karma," said Leigo. "It is a lustful combination of playful brights and faded fluoros, spliced tie-dyes and fine candy stripes."

While the one-piece works on any body shape, it particularly complements petite and curvy figures, helping to elongate the body and add a sense of balance.

"Plunging V-neck styles and zippers compliment bigger chests and make you look taller, while underwired bra-top swimsuits will accentuate a smaller cleavage," advised Fang.

Likewise, frills on top enhance the upper body while frills below hide unwanted curves. Meanwhile, ruched and pleated detailing on areas you want to emphasize can serve as a great attention-diverter.

For those who wish to fashion the one-piece trend while still baring their toned midriffs, there's the option of the monokini (a bikini attached with a strip of material down the middle), which are highly coveted by the Paris Hiltons of this world.

Finally, to perfect the beach look, accessorize your new one-piece with a pair of the season's retro shades and an oversized floppy sun hat, and you're good to go. Don't forget the sunscreen.
