Building a future in ancient brick carving

Pu Wenjun is the fourth generation of his family to inherit the ancient art of brick carving. The local custom, which has a 120-year history, was selected into the intangible cultural heritage list of Northwest China's Ningxia Hui autonomous region in 2009, with its products enjoying a reputation as beautiful ornaments with practical utility. Pu, seen here picking bricks in Longde county, Guyuan city on October 23, is an active player in promoting this ancient art by teaching villagers to learn brick carving and setting up a corporation to promote their products, which is a specialist industry in the region.[Photo/Xinhua]
