Justin Timberlake lands first UK number one hit

Justin Timberlake knocked Beyonce and Jay-Z off the top of the British pop charts on Sunday to claim his first solo UK number one with "Sexyback."

The American singer's first single in three years has already topped the charts in the United States.

While Timberlake hit number one in 2003 as a guest singer with U.S. band Black Eyed Peas on "Where is the Love?," he had never reached the top as a solo artist.

He has secured second place several times in Britain with hits including "Like I Love You," "Cry Me a River," and "Rock Your Body."

"Sexyback" entered the UK charts at number 13 last week on the back of Internet sales alone.

After going on general sale this week, it pushed the Beyonce/Jay-Z duet "Deja Vu" down to third and held Shakira's "Hips Don't Lie" in second place.

The highest new entry was U.S. band Scissor Sisters with their catchy retro song "I Don't Feel Like Dancin."'

Newcomers The Fratellis, a three-piece band from Glasgow, shot up 30 places to number five with "Chelsea Dagger."

Falling three to number six was "Ridin"' by U.S. rappers Chamillionaire and Krayzie Bone.

Northern Irish band Snow Patrol held steady at seven with "Chasing Cars."

At number eight was "Love Don't Let Me Go (Walking Away)," a remix by French DJ David Guetta of a song by British band The Egg.

American singer Cassie's "Me & U" fell three places to ninth, while German dance group Cascada completed the top 10 with "Everytime We Touch."

Indie rock band Kasabian entered the album charts at number one with "Empire," while Bob Dylan's "Modern Times" took the number three spot in its first week.
