6th China Beijing High-Tech Expo 2003

The 6th China Beijing International High-Tech Expo was held in grand style in Beijing from September 12 to 15, 2003, with the themes of "Technical Innovation, Olympic-led Business Opportunities, and Social Development".

High attendance at the Expo

The 6th High-Tech Expo organized almost 100 activities, including exhibitions, economic forums, trade and investment talks. These activities attracted thousands of domestic delegations from 31 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities, Hong Kong, Macao SARs and Taiwan.

The High-Tech Expo also welcomed 85 large foreign organizations, including large enterprises, scientific organizations and foreign governments from 45 countries and regions. More than 2000 world-renowned scientists, entrepreneurs, financiers showed up, some of whom made theme speeches.

A total of 2,006 companies and organizations participated in the exhibitions. More than 7,000 guests took part in the trade talks involving technology import, investment, government procurement, Olympic construction, transformation of outdated enterprises, innovation of small & medium enterprises, dissemination of agricultural technology.

518 speakers addressed 22 forums and events on specialized topics covering scientific innovation, social development, international cooperation, development of human resources and so on. The expo attracted a total of 12,695 visitors

Exhibitors netted 224 projects

Exhibitors from home and abroad displayed their latest high-tech achievements, and sought business opportunities in investment and trade talks. The High-tech Expo closed with the conclusion of 224 agreements on investment & high-tech projects and contracts worth US$4.682 billion. Beijing city alone netted 74 projects at the value of US$2.3 billion, up to 49.1 percent of the total.

Bio-engineering & pharmaceutical industry has become one of the leading industries in modern manufacturing field and is the high-tech industry which will promote the economic development greatly advanced in the 10th "Five-Year Plan" period (2001-2005). So Bio-engineering & Pharmaceutical Exhibition will be another hotspot after the Electronic & Telecommunication Exhibition.

The Bio-engineering & Pharmaceutical Exhibition is a highlight of the 6th High-tech Expo, attracting a number of famous exhibitors at home & abroad, including one of world 500 top multinational companies - Beijing Novartis Pharmacy Ltd, a renowned Chinese traditional medical enterprise - Beijing Double-Crane Pharmaceutical Co Ltd, the national biggest R&D base on family planning & reproductive health - Beijing Zizhu-Pharmaceutical Co Ltd, a Chinese leading bio-engineering & pharmaceutical company - Beijing Tiantan Biological Products Co Ltd, Beijing Zhangguang 101 Group, Beijing Health Bureau, Beijing Bio-engineering & Pharmaceutical Base. These enterprises impressed visitors with their aggressive images and excellent products.

A number of senior government officials attended the High-Tech Expo, including Jia Qinglin, Standing Committee Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China and Chairman of the National Political Consultative Conference, Jiang Zhenghua, Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Gu Xiulian, Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Hua Jianmin, State Councilor and Secretary-General of the State Council, and Liu Yandong, Vice-Chairman of the National Political Consultative Conference.
