will do that."
Third in the overall standings of the Vuelta in 2003, Valverde came second to
American Bobby Julich in this year's Paris-Nice race.
"He is the kind of character that you have to keep a leash on," Valverde's
Illes Balears team manager Jose Miguel Echavarri said. "If you let him do what
he wants, he will race for the win on every stage.
"We told him that he is not here to learn but to understand and to feel the
Tour. We are doing as we did with (five-times winner) Miguel Indurain."
FIERY COMPETITOR
Popovych, second in the young rider classification, is also a fiery
competitor.
The 25-year-old Ukrainian was selected by the Discovery
Channel team for his first Tour to replace injured veteran Vyacheslav Ekimov.
