China, US reach consensus on IPR protection

Top officials from the US and China reached a consensus in their talks Monday on the protection of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).

According to the Xinhua news agency, the two sides agreed to establish cooperation mechanisms for cross-border prosecutions of IPR violations and the protection of film copyrights.

The two sides were represented by China's Deputy Prime Minister, Wu Yi, and US Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez.

The meeting was held under the aegis of the US-China Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade, a 22-year-old body created to resolve trade disputes between the two trading partners. The two sides, however, failed to reach any decision on the recent dispute over the surge in textile exports from China.
