The eight freed Chinese hostages left Amman on Tuesday after stopover in Amman's international airport on their way home from Baghdad.

"All of them are in good condition and will be back to China soon," Zhai Jun, head of the three-member rescue team of the Foreign Ministry, told Xinhua new agency.

The Chinese government and relevant sides paid huge efforts to secure the release of eight Chinese citizens, he added.

Wei Wu, the youngest of the eight, thanked the Chinese government for sparing no effort to have them released.

The 19-year-old man said he is keen to see his family as soon as possible.

The eight Chinese citizens, who came to Iraq in search of job, were abducted on their way to Jordan by Iraqi gunmen identified themselves the Islamic Resistance Movement, according to a video tape released by the group last Tuesday.

The Chinese embassy in Baghdad asked the Committee of Muslim Scholars for helping free the Chinese hostages, who are from Pingtan County in southeast China's Fujian Province.

These Chinese citizens were released on Saturday and safely turned over to the Chinese side one day later.
