Chinese doping center ratified for 16th consecutive year

The Chinese Doping Center has received the accredited laboratory certificate issued by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), the Chinese Olympic Committee (COC) announced here on Wednesday.

The laboratory director Wu Moutian showed to Xinhua the certificate, which is signed by WADA president Richard Pound.

"China Doping Center fulfills the requirements of the World Anti-Doping Code and of the International Standards for Laboratories of the World Anti-Doping Agency," reads the official certificate. " (The Center) is authorized to conduct doping analyses for the period covering January 1 to December 31, 2005," it added.

This is the 16th consecutive year since 1989 that the Beijing-based laboratory is officially ratified in the annual identification. The laboratory is among a total of 33 across the word to have been certified by the WADA.

"A solid foundation has been laid down for the establishment of a doping center for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing," a COC official told Xinhua when asked for comments on the issue.
