Pak promises protection to Chinese nationals
Weeks after killing of a Chinese engineer taken hostage in Pakistan, Islamabad Wednesday pledged to protect Chinese nationals in the country, saying they will take all steps to ensure such incidents do not recur. Expressing condolence over the killing of a Chinese engineer in Pakistan on October 14, speaker of Pakistan National Assembly Chaudhry Amir Hussain said, "the government will ensure that similar incidents do not recur and take steps to root out terrorism." One of the two Chinese engineers taken hostage by al Qaeda-linked kidnappers were killed by Pakistani security forces in an operation in tribal area near Afghan border on October 14. Chinese and Pakistani leaders also reaffirmed their resolve to further deepen their all-weather relations. "China's National People's Congress will work with the National Assembly of Pakistan to push forward the relationship between the two countries," Wu Bangguo, China's top legislator said. "NPC and its Pakistani counterpart have maintained sound cooperation in international parliamentary organizations, and the two sides should also promote exchanges on law-making and supervision in the future," Bangguo, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee said. He said the two countries are good neighbours and their friendship has withstood testing times and endured the changing international situations, Xinhua news agency reported. |
