China Mobile and China Network Communications have joined Beijing's Olympic team.

The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) selected China Mobile Communications Group Corporation and China Network Communications Group Corporation (CNC) as its mobile communications service partner and fixed telecommunications partner.

BOCOG signed the agreement with these two top Chinese communication corporations on Wednesday and Thursday.

According to the agreement, China Mobile, ranked 242 in the latest Fortune 500 listings, will provide a sophisticated mobile communications networks and services to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games, BOCOG, the Chinese Olympic Committee as well as the Chinese delegations to the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Turin, Italy and 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

As a leading domestic telecom carrier, CNC, who has a wide range of fixed telecommunications network and facilities covering more than 260 countries and regions around the world, will provide fixed telecommunications products to the same groups.

Officials of BOCOG have expressed the need for communication services for a "hi-tech Olympics."

"With the increasing requirement on the organizational, operational and administrative standards of the Olympic Games, mobile communications technology will be applied more extensively to become an important technical support system and backup for hosting a successful Olympic Games," said Wang Wei, BOCOG vice-president and secretary-general, at the signing ceremony with China Mobile.

Liu Jingmin, Executive vice-president of BOCOG added at the signing ceremony with CNC that "hi-tech Olympics is one of the underlining concepts of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games."

"To carry out this concept, we should integrate advanced and reliable technological services into organizing and staging the Olympic Games, and build a solid technological foundation to ensure the success of an Olympic Games."

The leaders of the two corporations are confident of their work with BOCOG.

"China Mobile will provide advanced technology and first-class services to BOCOG and will help in realizing the concept of `Hi-tech Olympics'," said Lu Xiangdong, deputy general manager of China Mobile.

Zhang Chunjiang, CNC president, said that "as a partner, CNC will provide qualified and professional fixed telecommunication services for 2008 Games by launching four platforms, namely a service, network support, service support and co-operation and development."

"I believe CNC can guarantee one hundred per cent connection without any delays and one hundred per cent customer satisfaction in meeting the Olympic Games' demands."

According to Yuan Bin, vice director of the BOCOG Marketing Department, BOCOG will continue to sign partner agreements as well as sponsor agreements and supplier agreements with corporations, that meet the co-operation requirements of BOCOG, in other fields, such as aviation, sports clothing and white household electric appliances.
