Bazaar is home to made-in-HK goods
          ( 2003-12-04 09:55) (China Daily HK Edition)

A bazaar to display and sell only products made in Hong Kong will be set up in the capital of Guangdong Province next month when the zero-tariff treatment granted by CEPA comes into effect.

Located in busy Beijing Road of Yuexiu District, the bazaar will cover an area of more than 2,500 square metres in its first stage, said an official from the district government yesterday, adding that it would be expanded if needed.

Starting from next year, 273 Hong Kong-originated products will enjoy zero tariff on the mainland as stipulated in the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement signed in June.

The bazaar, with construction cost of more than 20 million yuan (US$2.41 million), will sell products like garments, cosmetics, food, jewellery, clocks and watches, categories covered by CEPA.

The official said most of the standard booths have now been rented by Hong Kong residents.

In another development, Hong Kong retailers whose operation area is less than 300 square metres can register with the Guangzhou Municipal Industrial and Commercial Administration just by showing their identity card and paying 20 yuan (US$2.41) as registration fee.

Operation licences effective for as long as four years will be granted within a month.

Currently, Hong Kong people have to go through complicated procedures to apply for an individual business licence in Guangzhou.
