"The Night of Southeast Asia"

Singing and Dancing Evening programme will be co-sponsored by the People's Government of Nanning City and Sun TV, and hosted by Yang Lan, the founder of Sun TV and also a famous hostess. Artists from the 10 countries of the ASEAN will be invited to perform in the show.

SunTV will broadcast the show live to over 100 million Overseas Chinese as part of its worldwide coverage, especially to the Southeast Asian and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan markets.

"The Singing Stages of the Green City" in June, 2003 referred to five counties, namely Hengxian,Binyang, Shanglin, Mashan, Long'an which formerly belonged to Nanning Prefecture, and were officially merged to Nanning City. This merging will provide conditions to build a greater Nanning and bring common prosperity to both urban and rural areas. During the 2003 Folk Song Art Festival, the Organizing Committee will set up over 20 singing stages in the squares, factories, villages and schools in Nanning City and in the seven counties governed by Nanning.

Artists from both home and abroad will be invited to perform with local people on stage so that more citizens can enjoy the amusement brought by the Festival.

The Mass Singing of New Folk Songs- The National Day Chorus Contest of the Capital City

The preliminary contest will be one of the main cultural activities of the year, while the final round will be held in Nanning City's Nanhu Park for the purpose of popularizing of original new folk songs in the Folk Song Festival.

Among the participants there was a prelude of performances for the 2003 Nanning International Folk Song Art Festival.

Tourism Activities

''Bagui Carnival''- The Fifth Anniversary celebration activity for the Folk Song Art Festival

To showcase the flourishing and prosperous Green City and the youthful spirit of all the ethnic groups in Guangxi, as well as the fifth anniversary of the Folk Song Art Festival, a grand activity called the Bagui Carnival which includes a costume parade, field performance and tourist promotions, and an awards presenting ceremony will be held.

Floats from home and abroad and colourful costumes are expected to make up a significant part of a variety of performances.

The 2003 Nanning International Tourism and Gourmet Festival

To improve the standards and levels of the Gourmet Festival, the name of the former Guangxi (Nanning) Tourism and Gourmet Festival will be changed to the Nanning International Tourism and Gourmet Festival.

Tourism, food, entertainment and trade will be integrated into the festival. The festival will be characterized by creativity, specialization, quality, safety and efficiency. Four major activities called Food Metropolis, Touring the Picturesque Scenery, Performances of Beauties and Wine Tasting are all eagerly anticipated at this event.

The Fifth Annual Co-ordinating Conference of 10 Cities 2003

During the Conference, the officials from China National Tourism Administration, Chinese tourism experts, leaders from local governments and tourism bureaus from 10 neighboring provinces, as well as representatives from the tourism enterprises and media will be invited to attend activities such as the Assembly of the Conference, the Special Forum on Regional Tourism Development, and the Tourism Trade Fair.

The member cities are expected to discuss the developing plan for regional tourism, reach agreements of co-operation and sign letters of co-operation intentions; they will also promote tourist products and present golden tourism routes with joint efforts so as to develop the tourist market together.

Economic and Trade Activities

Economic and trade activities will be held as a trade occasion of the highest standard and biggest scale of its kind in recent years. The organizing committee has invited all kinds of enterprises from the Pearl River Delta, Yangtze River Delta and Bohai Bay Economic Rim as well as guests from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Southeast Asia, Europe and North America, Japan and Republic of Korea.

Officials from the World's Top 500 and China's Top 500 enterprises are coming to participate in 10 economic and trade activities. The major events of the economic activities include the Guangxi Investment and Trade Fair, Nanning's Key Industrial Project Presentation, the Trade Fair for Private Enterprises from the East Coastal Region, and the Southeast Asia Economic and Trade Exhibition.

As well, there will be the Annual Assembly of Co-operation and Development between China's Southeast Cities, Nanning's Famous, Special, New and Unique Products Presentation, the Project Signing Ceremony and Reception Cocktail Party of the Nanning Investment and Trade Fair.

During the economy and trade activities, leaders of Nanning City will meet important guests from home and abroad, and the organizing committee will organize the guests to the development zones of the Counties and districts for investment and guests will be invited to attend various performances in Nanning.
