World Economic Development Declaration Conference to be held
          ( 2003-10-18 15:27) (Agencies)

The World Economic Development Declaration Conference is scheduled to be held on Nov. 6 and 7 in Zhuhai City, south China's Guangdong Province.

Chinese and foreign top leaders, representatives from international organizations, Nobel Prize winners and some 1,000 presidents of transnational companies will address the conference, which is co-sponsored by some 40 government departments and organizations.

With theme of "equality, credibility, cooperation and development", the conference will help promote the opening up of China to the outside world, said Cheng Siwei, president of the conference organizing committee.

Cheng, also vice chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, noted that the Zhuhai Declaration on world economic development, jointly drafted by Nobel laureates and Chinese economists, would be released at the conference.

The Zhuhai Declaration would stress the interdependence of world economies, the important role of science and technology, and sustainable development.

Cheng noted it was the first time China has sponsored such a declaration, indicating China's sincere participation in economic globalization.

Besides the Zhuhai Declaration, several specialized forums will be held during the two-day conference, said Cheng.
