Police, fire, emergency workers and Coast
Guard rescue boats are shown at the scene after the Staten Island Ferry
crashed into one of the piers October 15, 2003, killing at least 10
passengers and injuring scores of people as it tried to dock in high
winds, city officials said. The ship crashed at the end of its 5.2-mile
run from Manhattan on the free commuter trip that is also popular with
tourists because it passes the Statue of Liberty.
