Senior CPC official meets media mogul Rupert Murdoch
          ( 2003-10-09 21:30) (Xinhua)

Li Changchun, a senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official, on Thursday encouraged media mogul Rupert Murdoch and his company to make more substantial efforts to enhance mutual understanding between China and the rest of the world.

Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, appreciated Murdoch for his active efforts and strenuous work in advancing cooperation with China's news media.

He expressed the hope that Murdoch and his company, News Corp., would continue to contribute still more in increasing the mutual understanding between China and the world.

Murdoch, chairman and chief executive of the News Corp., said that his company would further strengthen cooperative ties with the Chinese media, and explore new areas with an even more positive attitude.

Murdoch and his party were invited by the Information Office under the State Council, or the Chinese cabinet, to visit the country from Tuesday to Saturday.
