Beijing lifts board & lodging restrictions for foreigners
          ( 2003-09-30 12:37) (people.com)

The restrictions of designated hotels for foreigners only when staying in Beijing is lifted from October 1, 2003 by Beijing Public Security Bureau. This is an important measure taken by the bureau to better serve the increasing international exchanges in the capital city.

Anyone from overseas used to be required to check in only at star hotels or designated hotels during his/her stay in Beijing. The all-out repeal of the restriction is a follow-up to the stop of such restrictions lifted in the eight downtown districts from last May 28. Thanks to the new policy, overseas guests will enjoy more convenience for their legal activities in Beijing. There was a special reminder from the Public Security sector yesterday: anybody alien who?ˉs going to stay in Beijing should go through with a registration for temporary stay so as to avail him-or-herself of the advantage brought about by the measures under the condition and protection of the related laws and regulations.

As reported, expected results have been achieved since the restriction on the lodging for overseas visitors was called off around the eight downtown districts in Beijing on last May 28. There sees an apparent increase in the number of units and lodgings for receiving overseas visitors who?ˉve found their stay in Beijing more enjoyable. All this has made the policy accorded with a big applause both from overseas visitors and all walks of life in society.
