Ancient tombs of Western Zhou Dynasty unearthed in Shaanxi
          ( 2003-09-29 11:28) (Xinhua)

Archaeologists have recently excavated two ancient tombs dating back to the Western Zhou Dynasty (11th century BC-771 BC) and discovered many precious articles in Baoji city, west China's Shaanxi Province.

Liu Junshe, chief of the archaeologist work group, said that many rare articles including 11 pieces of bronze ware, jade and other precious stones were found in the tombs.

The unearthed objects indicate the tomb owners were possibly nobles but further details are needed to confirm their identities, said Liu, adding that the discovered legacy will be helpful to related research even though they had been previously robbed.

The tombs are located in a cliff in the suburban Changqing village and archaeologists did not find the buried secret until Sept. 7 when a corner of the cliff collapsed because of excessive rainfall.
