Century-old railway bridge to be relocated to Hong Kong
          ( 2003-09-28 22:34) (Xinhua)

A 100-year-old railway bridge is soon to be relocated Sunday night, ending its service of connecting the city of Shenzhen in southern Guangdong province and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR).

Luohu Bridge, which has witnesses tremendous changes both in Shenzhen and neighboring Hong Kong, will be moved to one of its terminals in Hong Kong for exhibition, where a foundation has been built to hold the bridge.

While most of the rails were removed already, the remaining steel structure, weighing up to some 250 tons, will be relocated as a whole.

The Shenzhen municipal government planned to replace the prestigious age-old railway bridge with a brand-new one by the year 2004, which is expected to be 44 meters long, 20 meters wide and 11 meters high and has a better capacity to cope with possible flooding in Shenzhen River.
