          Sino-Kyrgyz relations to be strengthened
          ( 2003-09-08 09:53) (China Daily)

Kyrgyz Premier Nikolai Tanayev and visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing met on Saturday to discuss relations between their two countries, calling for the strengthening of bilateral relations.

Kyrgyz President Askar Akayev also met Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing yesterday to discuss relations between their two countries, calling for the further development of bilateral ties.

Akayev told Li that the good-neighbourly friendship treaty signed by the two countries laid a solid foundation for the development of bilateral ties oriented to the 21st century and co-operation between the two countries in the fields of counter-terrorism, justice and culture is very effective.

China's assistance to Kyrgyzstan for many years and substantive co-operation between Kyrgyzstan and China in the fields of communications, transportation, economy and trade have contributed to promoting economic development in Kyrgyzstan, according to Tanayev.

Earlier in the day, Li also had separate meetings with other Kyrgyz leaders and senior officials including Legislative Assembly (upperchamber) Spea-ker Abdygany Erkebayevich Erkebayev, Assembly of People's Representatives (lower chamber) Speaker Altay Borubayev and Foreign Minister Askar Aytmatov.

In these meetings, the Kyrgyz leaders expressed the position that Taiwan and Tibet are both inalienable parts of China, saying that Kyrgyzstan firmly supports the one-China policy.

The Chinese foreign minister arrived here earlier on Saturday for a two-day visit following a visit to Uzbekistan.
