Five workers in stable condition following blast
          ( 2003-07-31 09:28) (China Daily)

Five of the 12 people that were heavily injured in a fireworks factory blast in North China's Hebei Province on Monday are now in stable condition after hospital treatment, China Central Television (CCTV) reported Wednesday.

Doctors are still working to treat the remaining seven who are in critical conditions and another 79 suffering from various injuries.

Meanwhile, 15 of the 29 people killed by the blast have been identified by relatives.

A group of doctors and experts in the Jishuitan Hospital in Beijing have left for Xinji to offer help, according to the CCTV report.

The explosion happened at about 6 pm Monday evening in Wangkou Town of the city of Xinji. The blast demolished half of a two-storey office building 100 metres away and set fire to cars and motorcycles close to the factory.

After investigations, it was found that powder balls aired in the factory ignited by themselves due to high temperatures and humidity, in turn causing a series of blasts.

Insurance companies will soon give compensation to victims, but Dong Fuyin, head of the information office of Xinji, did not confirm all of those dead or injured can receive compensation, according to a report from the China News Service yesterday.
