          BOCOG job openings: 56 positions, 3000 applications

          On December 8, 2002, BOCOG held examinations and interviews to choose the first batch of employees to replenish the team. The final decisions on the 56 positions will be made public mid-January 2003.

          The October announcement to recruit new blood to join BOCOG attracted more than 3,000 applicants, out-numbering the original expectations of HR executives by a huge margin.

          Over 1000 candidates were invited to sit for the written examination on November 24, which consisted of an English language test and a written comprehensive knowledge exam.

          Two hundred and forty one candidates qualified for the final spoken English test screening interviews. Among the candidates, 174 or 72% hold Master's or higher academic degrees, 22 or 9% have been educated or trained overseas and 223 or 93% of the total are under the age of 35.

          BOCOG officials were elated that the committee is attracting so many talented young people but at the same time expressed regret that some highly qualified people will not be offered a job at this stage because of the limited number of positions available.

          Resumes of strong candidates will be kept on file for future consideration. BOCOG will advertise new vacancies on the Internet when they become available and organize similar examination and interviews to recruit people.

          Interested people can log on to the official website of BOCOG to check the positions available and also to sign up for the exams. It is expected that by the year 2008, there will be around 4000 people working for BOCOG.
