Underwater museum shows old hydrological inscriptions

A view of the inscriptions at the Baiheliang Underwater Museum in Fuling district, Southwest China's Chongqing municipality. The Baiheliang, literally the White Crane Ridge, is an archaeological site, now submerged under the waters of the Three Gorges Dam. The stone ridge is 1,600 meters long and 15 meters wide, reaching 138 meters at its peak height in the past. The rare inscriptions recorded water-level changes, harvests, positions and titles from 763 in the Tang Dynasty. The ridge has now been covered by an arch-shaped glass covering, a no-pressure container. The museum opened on 18 May 2009. [Photo/China News Service]
