High-level gathering provides much food for thought

Fighting corruption is a challenge shared by political parties all over the world, and international cooperation is needed to address the problem, delegates said during the second day of a gathering of parties in Beijing on Saturday.

The delegates made the remarks during panel discussions at the CPC in Dialogue with World Political Parties High-Level Meeting, which runs through Sunday.

During the discussions, delegates said parties around the world are now facing some universal challenges, including anti-corruption, intraparty supervision, maintaining close ties with the people and selecting and training party cadres.

Askarbek Shadiev, chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on International Affairs, Defense and Security ("Bir Bol") Faction of Kyrgyzstan, said the meeting has provided a chance to share experiences with the Communist Party of China, which he noted "has 89 million members and has accumulated rich experience".

"It also offers a platform for parties to discuss their concerns and seek solutions to the problems they are all facing," he said.

He added that corruption is the biggest challenge in Kyrgyzstan.

"We will boost exchanges with the CPC and other parties, and learn from them to find effective measures to create an equitable and stable society," he said.

Guo Yong, deputy Party secretary of Tsinghua University and director of the Center for Anti-Corruption and Governance, said the CPC has paid great attention to fighting corruption and has made remarkable progress.

Over the past five years, the number of provincial or other high-level officials who were investigated and punished has reached 440, and discipline inspection and supervision departments across the country have filed more than 1.5 million cases of Party members and officials violating rules, he said.

He also said the CPC Central Committee has revised 11 sets of Party rules, in which intraparty supervision, punishment and accountability were involved.

He added that a draft national law on supervision was being reviewed.

Phan Dinh Trac, executive vice-chairman of the Communist Party of Vietnam's steering committee for anti-corruption, said the CPC has made many great achievements, especially in anti-corruption, under the leadership of Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee.

He said he hopes to hear more of China's experience in fighting corruption during the meeting and wishes China success in realizing its goal of becoming a great modern socialist country by 2050.

Algeria's Amine Senouci, vice-president of the People's National Assembly and the leader of National Rally for Democracy (Algeria), called the high-level party-to-party dialogue in Beijing "unique, necessary and exciting".

"I really hope the parties will reach some consensus and develop a common action plan through the dialogue for coping effectively with the problems that they are all facing, including organized crime, terrorist attacks and corruption," he said.
