Toddler attacker remained calm after incident

The father of a girl who brutally attacked a toddler in an elevator has talked to media, saying the girl was very calm after the incident, according to Beijing Times.

The father told the newspaper he did not notice any unusual behavior in the girl before the incident. However, he is confused that the girl has remained extremely calm after the attack and does not appear to have any emotional turbulence. Instead, she reads and writes like a normal 10-year-old, the father said.

He said that, as a father, he does not know how or why his daughter was capable of such actions. He admitted he was concerned only with ensuring his daughter was fed and studied, but did not know what was in her her heart.

The incident happened in Changshou, Chongqing, on Nov 25.

Footage from a security camera in the elevator shows the girl attacked the boy repeatedly on the ride from the first to the 25th floor of the building, where she lives with her parents.

The girl told police she then took the boy home and beat him on the sofa in the living room. She took him to the balcony to play, she said, from where he fell over the rail.

The boy was found on the ground outside of the apartment building with multiple injuries and covered with blood.

The boy, Li Xinyuan, remained in the intensive care unit at Chongqing Medical University Children's Hospital on Thursday.

He has fractures of his skull and right eye socket.

His father Li Shengzhong said the boy is scheduled for an operation next week.

Because of the girl's young age, the police did not file a criminal case against her. She went to the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region on Dec 2 with her mother, who transferred there for work.

Her father denied media reports that the girl is from a violent family environment. He said he and his wife have a good relationship and there is no sign of family violence. He also said his daughter likes animals, and he was shocked by her actions.

The father said his priority now is to raise money to compensate the toddler's family.

Dan Xingming, a lawyer for the boy's family, said the family has demanded 300,000 yuan ($49,400) in compensation from the girl's family. The girl's family has already paid 78,000 yuan for the boy's medical care.
