Legislation to promote economic transformation

China's lawmaking will be focused on the country's economic transformation and adjustment to the changing economic situation during the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015) period, a legislator said in Beijing Thursday.

"To adjust and transform economic structures is an important task (for the country) during the 12th Five-Year Plan period, and it is an issue to be solved by means of law," said Xin Chunying, deputy director of the Legislative Affairs Commission of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's legislative body.

Xin told reporters at a press conference that transforming the country's economic structure is an urgent task , without which China’s development would be unsustainable.

New laws will be made during the next five years to encourage innovation and the development of independent intellectual property rights and technology, Xin said.
