Non-public sectors contribute to Tibet economy

BEIJING - The non-public sectors have grown into a strong driving force of Tibet's economy since the region's peaceful liberation in 1951, statistics have shown.
During the 11th Five-Year Plan?(2006-2010) period, tax revenues from the region's non-public sectors amounted to 10.85 billion yuan (about $1.68 billion), accounting for 71.9 percent of the total taxation of the Tibet autonomous region, according to the statistics provided at an ongoing exhibition marking the 60th anniversary of the peaceful liberation of Tibet.
By the end of 2010, Tibet had 107,800 market entities. Among them, 12,708 were domestic enterprises, 94,449 individual businesses and 384 cooperatives of farmers and herdsmen, up from 2,172, and 498 and 0 in 1980, respectively.
Tibet's GDP rose from 174 million yuan in 1959 to 50.746 billion yuan in 2010, registering an average annual rate of 9.1 percent, according to statistics.
The exhibition is free and runs from June 15 to July 8.
