Sincerity and equality boost friendship

DAKAR: A period of sincerity and equality has been the key to improving ties between China and several nations in Africa, including Senegal, said President Hu Jintao on Saturday.

In talks with Senegalese Senate Speaker Pape Diop and President of the National Assembly Mamadou Seck, Hu said the country would work to strengthen the bonds already established through trust and better coordination.

He said the Beijing Summit of China-Africa Cooperation Forum ushered in a new era for cooperation, attributing its success so far to sincerity, friendliness and equality. He noted that China had never imposed its views on Africa, nor set any political conditions for its aid to the continent.

He also said both sides had adhered to the principle of reciprocity and joint development, with neither seeking its own interest at the cost of the other.

China is willing to enhance coordination and cooperation between the two parliaments in all forms, he said. Hu said he had a very fruitful meeting with Senegal President Abdoulaye Wade, the two mapping out the future development of bilateral ties and key fields for cooperation, and signing five cooperation documents.

Diop spoke highly of the development of bilateral ties since the two countries resumed diplomatic ties in 2005. Noting that China is among Senegal's most important partners, he said the Senate would give its full support to decisions on boosting bilateral ties.

Seck said China's aid to Africa's economic and social development embodies the spirit of cooperation. The Senegalese parliament looks forward to promoting communication and exchange with the National People's Congress of China, he said.
