Ten killed, two injured in east China vehicle collison

JINAN -- Ten people died and two others were injured Friday in a collision between two vans and a minibus in east China's Shandong province, local police said.

The accident happened at about 2:10 p.m. in Ningjin County, Dezhou City, as one van on provincial road 314 tried to overtake another. The two vehicles then swerved into an oncoming minibus.

Seven passengers in the minibus were killed on the spot. Five people were injured, of whom three died in the hospital.

The remaining two hospitalized patients were in stable condition.

It was not clear how many people in all were in the three vehicles or whether the drivers were among the dead or injured.

An investigation is under way.
