Bus collides with truck, killing 8 in east China

NANCHANG -- A traffic collision killed eight people on an expressway in east China's Jiangxi Province early Thursday, local authorities said.

The accident took place at about 4:20 a.m. in Yujiang County. A spokesman with the provincial traffic police said, a bus collided with a truck that had already overturned. It happened on the expressway linking Shanghai to Kunming.

Five people were killed instantly. Three others died after emergency operations failed in a hospital, the spokesman said.

The truck was registered in central China's Hebei province. The bus was registered in southwestern Guizhou province.

No word on how many people were in the truck or on the bus.

Traffic police are investigating the accident.
