Tourism resources in Guiyang

Guiyang is one of the excellent tourism cities in China. With superior geological location, it has beautiful natural landscapes, peculiar historic spots, rich cultures and customs of the ethnic minorities, and pleasant climate -- warm in winter and cool in summer.  The city is also improving its tourism installation rapidly. All the above blend with each other wonderfully.

"Beauty is endowed by nature but the most precious scene is by the side of the city," is the typical feature of scenic spots in Guiyang. Combining natural landscapes and famous historic spots with ethnic customs, its Karst landscape is a mixture of mountain, water and hole.

Big parks located in the urban area, like Qianling Park and Forest Park, have got lots of praises from domestic and overseas tourists. Some famous historic spots, such as Jiaxiu Tower, Wenchang Pavilion and Yangming Temple are situated in the urban area, too.

The beauty of forest city is both in the mountains and rivers. The city is in the mountains and rivers whereas the mountains and rivers are in the city. People are moving in a beautiful picture.

Guiyang has 32 species scenic spots, nearly a complete set of tourism resources. Its Karst configuration covering more than 75% of the land brings about the varied scenery on the earth's surface. Flying waterfall and spring. Caves and underground rivers. Peculiar ethnic minorities' cultures. Cultural heritages of ethnic minorities' cultures. In addition to natural scenery, all the above add radiance and beauty to each other.

There are also some historic and cultural heritages in the near suburb in Guiyang. More than 100 scenic spots are distributed in the area of 8046 sq.km, which make it easy to arrange traveling routes. Since Guiyang boasts reputation of Forest City, nearly all the mountains regions are covered by forest vegetation and the forest coverage reaches 35%. Favorable ecological environment is created by forest and mingled with mountains and rivers. Guiyang is also called "Air-conditioning City".

The tourism industry in Guiyang has been initially formed into a complete and complementary system, including transport, travel, accommodation, catering, shopping and recreation. And "Travel and recreation belt around the city" mainly targeting the local citizens has begun to take shape. Hospitality industry, travel service, travel transportation and amusement industry have been made much progress. In 2000 Guiyang was awarded the title of "Excellent tourism city of China". Meanwhile, Hongfeng Lake and Qianling Park are among the first group that were conferred "Grade 4A of scenic spot" in the country. In addition, there are six province-level sites of attraction and one Guiyang Golf Holiday Center (with 18 international standard holes).

There are a group of well-preserved ancient architectures and cultural memorial architectures representing religious culture. As follows: Jiaxiu Tower, Wenchang Pavilion and Qingyan ancient architecture groups. Yangming Cave where the famous educator and philosopher Wang Yangming in Ming Dynasty lived in and comprehended the way of truth; Yangming Temple constructed to memorize Wang Yangming; Daozhen Temple constructed to memorize Ying Daozhen, a scholar in Eastern Han Dynasty; Tongye Studio of Zhou Yuhuang and old residential house of Zhao Mingjiong.

There are also some modern revolutionary and historic sites in Guiyang, since the red army ever passed Guiyang in the Long Match. Kylin Cave in Qianling Mountain where the General Zhang Xueliang and Yang Hucheng were once imprisonedin, and Yangming Cave and Xifeng concentration camp, etc.

In 2006, the city received 18.45 million domestic travelers and 89,000 overseas travelers. The foreign exchange income was US$39.04 million while the earnings from domestic travelers are 8.143 billion yuan. The total tourism earnings are 8.454 billion yuan, accounting for 14% of the city's GDP.
