Medical insurance policy adjusted in Beijing

Beijing Labor and Social Security Bureau announced changes in the Basic Medical Insurance, which will be in effect in July.

The new policy changes the payment structure and releases individual burden of medical fee.

The Basic Medical Insurance, available for all residents in Beijing, is for all employing units and individuals. The monthly insurance premium is withdrawn from individual’s salary and his employing unit.

According to the announcement, four main adjustments occurred in this reform, including a new payment structure.

Large payment reimbursement will decrease to 1,800 yuan from 2000 yuan, so that an individual can begin getting reimbursements if his medical payment is over 1,800 yuan a year instead of 2,000 yuan.

There will be increases in the reimbursement proportion of outpatient fees rising to 70 percent from 60 percent. Reimbursement proportion of expensive medical material and equipment fees will hike to 70 percent from 50 percent. Besides, the amount of reimbursement for artificial organ costs will increase as well.

The new policy, which covers a population of 11.71 million, will save people from having to pay 460 million yuan every year in medical costs.
