The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Monday announced the latest reshuffling of the provincial leadership after the 11th National People's Congress (NPC) elected a new State leadership lineup last month.

Jiang Yikang, vice-president and Party chief of the National School of Administration (NSA), was appointed secretary of the CPC Shandong provincial committee in accordance with a CPC Central Committee decision.

Jiang, 55, replaced Li Jianguo, who was elected secretary-general and vice-chairman of the 11th NPC Standing Committee at the NPC annual session in March.

A Shandong native, Jiang joined the CPC in 1970. He has extensive experience in both local and central Party departments.

A graduate of the former Central South University of Technology - now part of the Central South University - Jiang holds a master's degree in management. From 1974 to 1985, he worked in various departments in Shandong, including the Shandong Film and Video Equipment Factory and the CPC Jinan committee.

Jiang began serving in central Party departments in 1985.

He had been deputy director of the secretariat of the CPC Central Committee General Office and then deputy director of the general office.

From 2002, Jiang served as deputy secretary of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee, and in 2006, was appointed NSA's vice-president and Party chief.

Jiang was an alternate member of the 16th CPC Central Committee and is now a member of the 17th CPC Central Committee.

Shandong is one of China's major economic powerhouses. According to official figures, its GDP rose to 2.6 trillion yuan ($370 billion) last year, accounting for one-10th of the national total. The province has set targets of a 4 trillion yuan GDP by 2012 with per capita GDP of $5,000.
