          In the press

"The congress is expected to elevate members of younger, more broadly educated cohorts into senior Party positions, which will lead to similar changes in posts around China.

The shift will give the younger generation more influence over official thinking and policymaking, and could transform, albeit gradually, the way Chinese officials deal with foreign businesses.

The rise of the new generation could make it easier for foreign executives to advance projects or gain access to senior officials, as younger leaders better understand business and often have more experience dealing with foreigners. Some have spent significant time working or studying abroad."

"The development of democracy must be balanced with the interests of the masses. Political reform, which highlights a people-centered concept has become an important part of China's reform of the political system."

"China set a target to quadruple the per capita GDP figure from 2000 by 2020 at the Communist Party's five-yearly meeting yesterday.

The aim is more ambitious than previous targets set for 2020, which have merely called for a quadrupling of the economy, not of per capita GDP.

This is because China's population, which was just below 1.3 billion in 2000, is forecast to rise to 1.5 billion by 2020."

          Agence France-Presse

"The Party's new ideology requires China to move toward more sustainable growth and create a 'harmonious society' by reducing economic inequalities."

          Deutsche Presse-Agentur

          www.dpa.com

"The CPC national congress not only relates to the future development of the Communist Party of China, but also links to future lives of hundreds of millions of Chinese. Financial issues become the top issues of concern for most people.

Except for the Taiwan question and corruption problems, which are in the political arena, all other hot issues concern people's livelihoods."
