Man's pledge to wife lands him in hot water

Updated: 2006-08-24 08:48 A husband's letter promising to give up all his wealth if he was unfaithful in his marriage has caused controversy in court recently, after his wife sued him for having extramarital affairs and asked for full ownership of the wealth. Bai wrote the letter early last year when his wife Zhang found that he was having a sexual relationship with one of his clients. This July Zhang again found Bai having an extramarital affair and asked for a divorce. Some lawyers thought the letter illegal, as it was unfair to deprive Bai ownership of wealth he had created alone. Others said the court should support Zhang as Bai wrote the letter out of his own will. The case continues. |
