Brazil seeks more trade with China
(Xinhua)
Updated: 2008-08-12 09:58 Brazil will double its trade with China in the next five years, Alessandro Teixeira, president of the Brazil Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil), said in Beijing Monday. "The annual trade volume between Brazil and China will be increased by at least 10 percent to 15 percent in 2010 and be doubled in the next five years," Alessandro Teixeira told Xinhua in an interview. Apex-Brasil officials came to China during the Olympic Games to promote exports of products and service to China and attract more Chinese investment in Brazil, as China is its largest trade partner in Asia. "We understand the Olympic is a historical moment for China and that it is also a crucial moment for us to learn from China and open more business opportunities in China," Alessandro Teixeira said. Alessandro Teixeira, who is also the President of World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA), said that the global economic growth cannot go fast without China. China has always been important and now it has become Brazil's second largest trade partner after the United States, he said. Apex-Brazil has held seminars in Beijing and Macao, and will have 49 more seminars across the country, to create the environment for more trade between Brazil and China, especially to promote exports to China and attract Chinese investors to Brazil. "I think Brazilian processing food, agricultural products and biofuels will have huge potential in Chinese market, and Chinese investors will have interests in infrastructure, mining and high-technology industries in Brazil," he said. Apex-Brazil is also going to establish a trade support center in Beijing's Central Business District (CBD) in October or November. Apex-Brazil now has five centers around the world, respectively in Miami (US), Lisbon (Portugal), Frankfurt (Germany), Warsaw (Poland) and Dubai (United Arab Emirates). Alessandro Teixeira said he believed the Beijing center would be the largest. Brazil, the largest economy in Latin America, is also China's top trade partner in Latin America. The trade between China and Brazil totaled to $23.4 billion in 2007. (For more biz stories, please visit Industries)
