China's business climate improving

More Chinese business people think economic conditions have become better, a recent official survey found.

The Chinese Enterpriser Survey System (CESS) sent out 16,000 questionnaires from August to October this year, and got 5,016 responses.

Thirty-three percent of those responding believed business conditions were "favorable," which was 26 percentage points higher than the number in the first quarter. Forty-eight percent believed conditions were "ordinary" and 18.9 percent said they were "bad."

Results of a similar CESS survey from the first quarter of this year showed the percentage of business people who said conditions were "bad" was 11.9 points higher than those who said "favorable."

Meanwhile, according to the latest survey, economic conditions of large-sized enterprises or State-owned companies were much better than medium-sized enterprises or private businesses.

Results also varied among different industries and regions. Industries such as medicine, chemicals, rubber, vehicles and communications equipment were better than textiles and nonferrous metal industries. More business people from the Northeast and West China felt conditions were favorable than those from the midlands.

The CESS was run by the Development Research Center of the State Council, the National Bureau of Statistics and other governmental agencies. An official from CESS said this was the 17th survey of Chinese business people's judgments, evaluations and suggestions on present economic conditions.
