Five auto producers are actively conducting research and development (R&D) on new energy vehicles.

1. Hybrids enter mass production at Dongfeng

Xin Jixin, general manager ofDongfeng Electric Vehicle Co Ltd, said the company planned to sell 100 hybrid-electric buses this year, adding the company had won bidding for two hybrid buses in Beijing.

Dongfeng's hybrid-electric passenger cars have now entered mass production, and its development of a hybrid-electric sedan is also going smoothly, said Xu.

Dongfeng has sold almost 5,000 electric mini-buses so far, including 400 units in the first half of this year, and is expected to sell 1,000 units in 2007.
